Super Bowl Sunday

Gearing up for game day for me was planning some yummy food for my football-loving husband and for the teenagers who could care less about the game -but love good food.

I declared last weekend that I would be making homemade pizza - which was well received by the family. I also knew that this was another wonderful opportunity to be creative with something sweet. I immediately thought that cupcakes would most likely be the direction I would go. So I began planning how I would decorate some football themed cupcakes.
It seemed I had been working on the cupcakes and pizza dough all day, but I really enjoy the creative part of decorated the cakes. I made modeling chocolate for the first time and loved the ease of using this to create 3D decorations on the cakes. This tastes so much better than fondant and is easy to work with. I ended up only frosting and decorating 12 cupcakes because of a couple of reasons. First of all - we didn't need to eat more than that and it was getting close to game time and I wanted to watch the game (let's face it - the commercials) and just relax on the couch for the rest of the evening.
When the cupcakes were finished I began creating our pizzas. I chose to make whole wheat dough and it had been rising for the past couple of hours. I shaped one of the pizzas like a football complete with lines of Canadian bacon to add details to the pizza.
There wasn't chips and dip, appetizers of various sizes, meatballs or wieners on our Super Bowl menu...but I think everyone enjoyed it!
